Snowpaw entered the medicine cat den. He had been in here so many times as a kit, mostly because of Icepaw and her siblings, that he knew almost better than the nursery. "Willowstep?" He called, hoping his mentor was here.

Willowstep padded out of her nest and jumped at the sight of Snowpaw. "Oh! Hello, Snowpaw." She gave a weak laugh then approached Snowpaw. "You're my apprentice, I guess?"

"That's right, nice to meet you." He greeted with a smile. She seemed nice. Snowpaw could feel some of his worry begin to ebb away, but some still lingered.

Willowstep looked at Snowpaw. He seemed worried. "You look worried! What's the matter?" she meowed playfully, "Did you think I'd be some big creep that would cut your throat open if you did something wrong?"

"Not exactly..." Snowpaw mewed observing his paws shyly. "I'm just a bit of a worrier." He explained. A bit? You worry more than an overprotective queen worries about her kits! Icepaw's words echoed in his mind. Icepaw...

Willowstep looked at Snowpaw, confused. "Well, we are going to have to change that! There's no need to worry!" she meowed, nudging Snowpaw and letting out a small laugh.

"Right." Snowpaw agreed. He stood a bit taller, trying to make a good impression. "So, what should I learn first?" He asked. I'm just glad I know some herbs already. I guess Icepaw always get hurt did have some benefits... He thought. Though he still would get freaked out every time his friend got hurt.

Willowstep thought for a minute. "Hmmm. Do you know what we use to treat infections, especially rat bites?" she meowed, padding up to Snowpaw, "You should. It'll be important!" Then she went to the back of her den. "Hmm?"

Snowpaw racked his brain. What had Icepaw needed when she attacked that rat and it bit her? He thought, thinking back to his misadventures with his best friend. "I know that burdock root works." He answered, not sure if there were any other possible answers.

Willowstep looked at Snowpaw. "Very good! That's correct!" she meowed, cheerfully, "So, do you know what we use to treat kittencough?" She stood and went to her herbs, looking to see if she had what she needed for kittencough. Good, we have coltsfoot for kittencough., she thought.

All Snowpaw knew about coughs was that Oceanpaw ha had a nasty one when she was a kit. And she had used coltsfoot to recover. "Um, would Coltsfoot work?" He asked.

Willowstep gave a short purr, then meowed, "Exactly!" She padded back over to Snowpaw. Snowpaw will be a great medicine cat. I can tell., she thought, then mewled, "What do we use for ticks?"

"We use mouse bile to get them off." Snowpaw answered. Who knew that all of Icepaw's misadventures had taught me so much! He thought, glad he knew some herbs.

Willowstep meowed, "Yes! Perfect! Wow, I'm tired and hungry. Let's get some fresh-kill." she meowed, stepping toward the entrance to her den. She flicked the tip of her tail to tell Snowpaw to follow.

Snowpaw followed his mentor out of the den. (Should we start a new thread outside of the Med Cat Den?)
